Greater Medford VNA’s Competency Day a Success

Every year in June, Greater Medford Visiting Nursing Association (GMVNA) hosts a day of comprehensive training activities for its nurses and clinical staff in order to satisfy certification and state requirements.  This Competency Day helps the staff to refresh their techniques, learn new approaches to common problems, and update their knowledge with the most current findings.  This year the educational competency day took place on Tuesday, June 24, 2014.

GMVNA had 10 interactive stations covering a variety of medical areas, which included topics such as:  wound vac, telehealth, Medicare Regulations and MOLST, (Massachusetts Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment).    The clinical staff rotated through the stations, and were tutored by experts in the field.

Maureen Savage, Rehabilitation Clinical Manager, said “Every nurse, PT, OT and all clinical staff employed by the Greater Medford VNA are required to attend in order to maintain our strict level of capability and adequacy in the field.  Also the mandatory competency day ensures the staff are updated on current policies and procedures”.

The Greater Medford Visiting Nurse Association (GMVNA) is a non-profit organization that has been providing home health care and community health programs for more than a century. GMVNA has deep roots in the community and is one of the few independent visiting nurse associations left in Massachusetts. This independent culture allows us to remain true to our mission of health promotion and disease prevention and to be trusted by both health care professionals and patients alike.

We are the preferred provider of home health care services in the greater Boston area, consistently delivering high quality, compassionate care and responsive customer service. We strive to become the standard by which local home health services are measured. You can trust GMVNA for all your home health needs, as we make it our mission to put the patient first.
