MA Schools Protesting Gun Violence On National Walkout Day
Over 100 walkouts are planned across the Bay State on Wednesday, March 14.

Students from over 100 Massachusetts elementary, middle and high schools are planning to walk out of class next week, joining in solidarity with students across the country who are protesting gun violence and lawmakers' inaction on passing gun control legislation.
Students across the country will walk out of class at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14 and stay out of class for 17 minutes to honor the 17 people killed in Parkland, Florida last month.
"We are certain this will be a seminal moment in our students' lives and will be an impactful moment across the country," a joint letter from Malden Superintendent John Oteri and Mayor Gary Christenson said. "We know our diverse, dedicated and thoughtful students will provide the leadership and voice that will carry the next generation to a safe and more inclusive world."

The nationwide ENOUGH walkouts are sponsored by the Women's March organization, but each walkout is being organized as a grass-roots effort at the school level. So far, more than 2,200 walkouts are planned for March 14.
"We should capitalize on lessons students can learn from the experience," said Waltham High School Principal Gregory A. DeMeo."
