MEDFORD, MA – The city of Medford this month appointed its first recreation director to oversee the burgeoning recreation department. Kevin Bailey, who formerly served as the assistant aquatics director for the town of Brookline and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was named to the position Jan. 2.
Developing a citywide recreation department has been a goal of Mayor Stephanie M. Burke's since the beginning of her first term. Burke established a Recreation Focus Group to determine the make-up and function of a potential department, leading to its formation.
"Launching a recreation department within the City of Medford is very exciting for the entire community. I am proud of the great work that the Recreation Focus Group completed and the recommendations they provided me with for moving forward," Burke said in a press release. "Bringing Kevin on board to begin our Recreation Department is a critical step in improving the opportunities and experiences that residents of all ages will have. I am thrilled to welcome him as part of our team and look forward to his collaboration with other programs and departments in the city."
