Medford Approves Partnership For HS Gym Renovations
The school committee voted Monday night to send out a request for proposal to select a university partner.

MEDFORD, MA – The Medford School Committee voted Monday night to move forward with an educational partnership between MPS and an area university, which includes the rental and renovation of the high school gym.
A request for proposal will be sent out next week, and an area university is expected to be named by mid-June, a spokesperson for the Medford Public Schools said in an email. Work is scheduled to be completed this summer.
The school committee voted 7-0 in favor of putting the RFP out, and both Superintendent Roy Belson and Superintendent Elect Marice Edouard-Vincent support the partnership proposal. Lesley University in Cambridge has sought a partnership with Medford that would allow it to use some MPS athletic facilities in exchange for renovations to the high school gym and access to Lesley programs.

School officials have said the partner's use of the gym would not conflict with Medford's athletic calendar.
The rental agreement would be $158,000 annually for three years.
