Medford City Council Green Lights Police HQ
Construction was put on hold in March amid concern over replacing the fire department's training space and funding multiple city projects.

MEDFORD, MA – Plans to build a new Medford police station are back on track. The city council Tuesday night approved $1 million to fund the demolition of the police and fire training academy, according to the Medford Transcript. The vote was 5-2.
In March, the council voted to put the project on hold amid questions about the city's ability to pay for new police and fire buildings and a library, as well as concern over replacing the fire department's training space. A location for the new training academy has not yet been selected, and Medford representatives are still working to secure the use of land near the VFW building on Mystic Avenue from MassDOT.
Medford Mayor Stephanie M. Burke has said she is confident the land will be acquired, but some firefighters feel their needs are not being addressed, the Transcript reported. One who spoke at Tuesday's meeting said the decision "really doesn't get more personal" and another questioned the purpose of stalling the project earlier this year.
