Medford Council Approves $30.5M For New Library
A $12 million state grant will be appropriated toward the project.

MEDFORD, MA – The Medford City Council this week approved $30.5 million in funding for the design and construction of a new library, per Mayor Stephanie M. Burke's request. The vote on April 3 was unanimous, according to the Medford Transcript.
A $12 million grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners will be appropriated toward the project. The city received the grant earlier than anticipated, which delayed the timeline for construction of a new fire headquarters by two years.
At Tuesday's meeting, Burke agreed to meet with councilors and public safety representatives to discuss current plans to build new police and fire buildings, the Transcript reported. They will also evaluate the conditions of the fire stations and concern over the expected teardown of the police and fire training building.
