MEDFORD, MA — Nips may be on their last leg in Medford. A motion made during a recent City Council meeting will have the Licensing Commission examine prohibiting the sale of 50 ml bottles of alcohol, known as nips, at incoming liquor stores, according to the Medford Transcript.

Existing liquor stores would be allowed to sell nips at a higher licensing fee, but they would be banned at new businesses or those with recently transferred licenses. City Councilor Adam Knight said the aim is to "curtail the sale of nips in the community and move to abolition," the Transcript reported.

The City Council passed the motion. Earlier this year, Chelsea became the first community in Massachusetts to ban the sale of nips.
