Medford Firefighter Lauded For Saving Man's Life At Sears

Richard Jentz was shopping at Sears in Saugus when another man suffered a cardiac event.

MEDFORD, MA — A Medford firefighter is being recognized for saving a man's life while off-duty. Firefighter Richard Jentz was shopping at the Sears department store in Saugus when an 87-year-old man suffered a cardiac event, according to the Medford Fire Department.

Jentz evaluated the man and gave him CPR until emergency crews arrived. The victim regained consciousness and was able to communicate on the way to the hospital.

"The quick response and professional skills demonstrated by Firefighter Jentz at this incident helped to save this man's life," Medford Fire Chief Frank Giliberti Jr. said in a statement. "Again I commend and congratulate Firefighter Jentz. These actions are consistent with the highest ideals and traditions of the Medford Fire Department."
