Medford Hero Being Honored Tonight

A Medford woman who has experienced heartbreaking loss is now helping others in need through her late son's foundation.

MEDFORD, MA — A hero walks among us, Medford. Dot Hayes will be honored as such Friday night at TD Garden when the Boston Celtics host the Orlando Magic.

When Hayes met her adopted son Jason in 1988, the 3-year old was facing an uphill climb. He was born with alcohol and drugs in his system, and he would suffer from a number of developmental challenges throughout his short lift.

Jason’s died at 14, but his memory lives on through the Jason Hayes Foundation. The foundation has awarded more than $20,000 in scholarships and funding for more than 40 local organizations. The money has gone to help hundreds of families in need.
