Medford Library Closing This Summer, Construction To Follow

The library will relocate to a temporary location for nearly two years of construction.

MEDFORD, MA — The Medford Public Library will close this summer and relocate to a temporary building during construction of a new library. The library will close Friday, July 12 and Friday, July 19 to prepare for the move and close again July 26 through Aug. 10 to set up the temporary location.

The temporary library location is 200 Boston Ave., along the 80 and 94 bus lines and a short walk from the 96 bus line. Library hours will remain the same.

"200 Boston Avenue is a perfect home for our temporary library," Mayor Stephanie M. Burke said in a statement. "It’s handicap accessible, 1.5 miles from the current location and has ample onsite parking."

The temporary space will offer study tables, public computers, and WiFi. There will also be a book drop outside the main entrance of 200 Boston Avenue. Because the temporary space is limited in size, a portion of the library’s collection will be in storage.

However, the Minuteman Library Network interlibrary loan system is very efficient. Most programming for kids and teens will be held outside of the temporary space. The locations will be announced on the Medford Public Library website.

There will be a multi-use room available and small group programs such as writing groups and discussions will be able to take place here. Larger lectures and performances will be held at other locations in the City.

Construction of the new library will begin in October and is anticipated to be completed by spring 2021. Please visit the Medford Public Library website at www.medfordlibrary.org for the summer schedules and updates.
