Medford Man Charged In South Station Assault

The MBTA Transit Police said witnesses reported the 38-year-old man struck another man with an object when a verbal altercation escalated.

MEDFORD, MA — A 38-year-old Medford man was arrested on Friday after MBTA Transit Police said witnesses reported that he struck another man with an object at South Station early in the morning.

Transit Police said witnesses reported the fight began about 6:30 a.m. as a verbal altercation between two men at the commuter rail station and that Hocine Lounici, 38, then "began to attack the victim with some instrument."

Police said Lounici was detained and taken to Transit Police headquarters for booking, while the victim was taken to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening injury to his face.

Police said they are still investigating the circumstances that led to the fight.
