Medford Man Pleads Guilty to Numerous Counts of Insurance Fraud, Attempted Larceny

The man ran acupuncture businesses in Medford and Lowell.

A 45-year-old Medford man has pleaded guilty to numerous counts of insurance fraud and attempted larceny after billing over $30,000 in fees for acupuncture and other services he did not provide, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.

Yongshuo Qu, of Medford and Hudson, New Hampshire, operated acupuncture businesses under the name HealthLand LLC in Medford and Lowell. He pleaded guilty to 12 counts of insurance fraud and eight counts of attempted larceny, according to authorities.

Middlesex Superior Court Judge Bruce Henry sentenced him to two years in prison to be suspended for four years and ordered him to pay $24,000 in fines and $13,885 in restitution to Commerce Insurance, authorities said.

Authorities said from March 2008 to April 2012, Qu filed hundreds of fraudulent insurance claims for work he did not provide and work provided by unlicensed practitioners.
