Medford Planning Krystle Campbell Playground For Fall

MEDFORD, MA – An organization founded in the wake of the Newtown and Hurricane Sandy tragedies has proposed a Krystle Campbell Memorial Playground in Medford. The Where Angels Play Foundation, founded by retired firefighter Bill Lavin, will hold a celebration of Campbell's life and birthday this Thursday, May 3 at the Summer Shack to fundraise for the project.

Campbell, a graduate of Medford High School, was killed in the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013. A memorial playground built in her honor is planned for this fall at Logan Park. It will reflect Campbell's likes and personalities and will be built by volunteers, friends and family, according to the city.

"After meeting with Mr. Lavin, I knew the mission of this foundation was truly special and perfect for our community," Mayor Stephanie M. Burke said in a statement. "The Krystle Campbell playground will exemplify the true meaning of a safe place for our children to learn and grow while memorializing Krystle’s vibrant personality. I saw Mr. Campbell’s face light up when he heard about the offering from the organization and knew it was a brilliant idea!"

The fundraising event will take place Thursday, May 3 from 6-10 p.m. at the Summer Shack, 149 Alewife Brook Pkwy., Cambridge. All donations from this event will go toward the project.
