Medford Plastic Bag Ban To Start This Summer
The mayor passed an ordinance this week prohibiting the use of plastic bags at retail establishments.

MEDFORD, MA – A plastic bag ban signed into law by the mayor this week will go into effect this summer, according to the city. The ordinance began as a proposal by a group of Medford High School students, whose petition received more than 600 signatures, the mayor said.
The ordinance will prohibit the use of thin-film plastic bags at retail establishments in the city. It will go into effect July 16.
More than 90 other municipalities in the state have passed similar ordinances to reduce plastic bag waste.
