Medford Superintendent Search: Candidates Not Limited To MPS
The district will consider both internal and external candidates to replace retiring superintendent Roy Belson.

MEDFORD, MA – Medford Public Schools will consider both internal and external candidates to replace Superintendent Roy Belson, who is retiring at the end of his contract on June 30. The Medford School Committee decided at its Committee of the Whole meeting Jan. 16 to examine candidates from outside the district to provide a breadth of options for the new superintendent.
Belson is now in his 23rd year as Medford superintendent of schools; he announced his retirement in November.
The school committee has compiled a brochure, citywide survey for community input and application form for potential candidates. The mayor will appoint an 11-member search committee to work with the Massachusetts Association of School Committees and Medford School Committee to screen eligible applicants.

The aim of the group is to develop a list of qualified finalists for public interviews.
"The Superintendent search will be an open and transparent process. We urge the community to get involved and participate. We want to know what you would like to see in our next Superintendent of Schools," Burke said in a statement. "The search committee will conduct a thorough screening to identify candidates both inside, as well as, outside the school district. The search committee will represent a cross section of the schools and the community. It is my intent that a diversified group of professional educators, parents, community leaders, and citizens will apply for appointment to this committee."
