At 2:30p.m. Mayor Stephanie M. Burke along with students, teachers, and local officials will unveil the 4th 3D crosswalk in the City of Medford at the Columbus Elementary School at 37 Hicks Avenue in Medford.

The idea for the 3D crosswalks came from two students, Isa and Eric, both students at the Brooks Elementary School. Their vision came after Eric’s younger brother was nearly hit by a vehicle adjacent to the school.

Both children are members of Medford’s Center for Citizenship and Social Responsibility (CCSR) group. CCSR is funded by The Cummings Foundation and The Krystle Campbell Betterment Project (Boston Foundation). The children set up an appointment with Mayor Burke and requested her support for the idea. Burke assisted the children in petitioning the Medford Traffic Commission for approval.

The Mayor enthusiastically supported the idea. The City of Medford Engineering Department, Department of Public Works, and local artist Nate Swain all worked together to have the children’s idea come to fruition.
