Medford Voke Hosting Engineering and Robotics Open House

The program has come a long way since its inception just three years ago.

The following is from Medford Public Schools:

Medford Vocational Technical High School will be hosting an Engineering and Robotics Open House, Tuesday, June 20th – 5:30 – 8:00 P.M.

Please join us for our first MVTHS Engineering and Robotics open house! Our program has come a long way since its inception just three years ago and we are excited to show the Medford community how much we have grown.

Highlights of our first three years include the development of a telepresence robot that was featured on Boston.com and on Channel 7, used by a teacher to continue to teach despite being home bound. In addition, our students designed and developed a hydroponics system for the school’s biotechnology program and featured in MPS Advantage. Recently we were awarded a $100K grant by the Massachusetts Life Science Center to support the development of a new automation laboratory and over $60K from the Massachusetts Capital Skills Grant Program.

Originally housed in a former biology classroom, the program now boasts industry-level electronics workstations and mechanical fabrication equipment that rivals those found at local engineering schools. But most exciting is the work of this year’s class! Come and see the following projects (and works in progress) including an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV), a telepresence robot, an X-Y drawing plotter, line tracking robots, a persistence of vision display and automated candy sorters.

We extend special thanks to the Medford Education Foundation for their generous support making possible this year’s ROV project and the hydroponics system.
