Medford Voke Students Win City's Green Award

Biotechnology and Environmental Science Technology students were honored by Mayor Burke for their aquaponics project.

MEDFORD, MA - At this year's Harvest Your Energy Festival, several MVTHS students were recognized for their environmental efforts with a Green Award.

Mayor Stephanie Muccini Burke presented students from the Biotechnology and Environmental Science Technology program with the award for their aquaponics project.

Aquaponics is an agricultural system that filters the waste from aquatic creatures into nutrients for plants. Students in the class had been working on a similar system, which was submitted to the Medford Green Awards.

The local Green Awards take into account the innovativeness of a project, its potential impact, the promotion of positive public education on environmental issues, the cooperation of various entities to bring it to life and its measured contribution to the environment and greenhouse gas reduction.

The awards are sponsored by the City of Medford's Energy Committee in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce.
