New Medford Mother Had 'No Idea' She Was Pregnant

MEDFORD, MA — A Medford woman had "no idea" she was pregnant before giving birth at home Tuesday, the Medford Fire Department said. Firefighters received an emergency call for a woman in labor Tuesday and arrived to find she had already given birth to a baby girl.

The woman was in the entranceway of her home alongside a Medford police officer, who wrapped the baby in a blanket.

Firefighters gave the baby supplemental oxygen and cut her umbilical cord. The mother and child were taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
