The Fire Department won last year’s game on a power play goal, and Medford Police Captain Kevin Faller has some added motivation to bring home victory in this year’s matchup after being sent to the sin bin for what he jokingly called a “stupid” penalty .

“It was a stupid penalty because it was called on me (it was actually a good call),” Faller told Patch.”I have some added motivation to with this year.”

The Medford Fire Hockey Team could immediately be reached for comment, but the team does not seem to be short of motivation this year.

Faller told Patch that the police and fire departments used to combine to form one hockey team, but eventually both departments had enough members to form two teams. He said that the two departments have always had a good relationship, but they both love some good competition.

“Any time you get cops and firefighters together in the same room, we’re always going to be looking to get competition going,” Faller added.

Faller estimates that around 100 people attended last year’s game, and that the departments hope that the game can continue to be played annually.
