Mustangs Lacrosse Programs Both Earn GBL Crowns
The Medford High girls and boys lacrosse squads both secured third-consecutive GBL titles this week, as the spring season continued. Here's a look at how the locals fared.

With the clouds finally relenting last week, the student athletes of Medford High were able to get back to the business at hand. With nearly every Medford High squad either alive in the hunt for a league title, or with one already in hand, the local sports action only figures to heat up during the run-in to the end of the season.
It has been a great season so far for Matt Galusi and his girls lacrosse squad, and that fact was set in stone this week, as the Mustangs (9-1) wrapped an impressive third consecutive Greater Boston League title on April 28 with a convincing 17-2 win over Malden at Edgerly Field on Pink Out Night.
Olivia Timmins paced the attack with 5 goals, while Mady Forcier, Leigh Williams and Katherine Timmins all posted a pair of goals.

Medford started the week with an ultra-tough test against nearby Malden Catholic, a school which has siphoned off more than one promising athlete from the city in the past, and fell in a close game by a 10-7 margin.
April 22, it was again Howard who stole the show, as he seemed to be enjoying divine favor at times against Watertown during Medford’s 11-3 victory. The Medford defense was tremendous in the win.
The Mustangs would defeat Lynn English 13-0 in blowout fashion on April 26, and fall to powerful Newton South 13-3 on April 30.
Gilchrist Shines on the Diamond
Moving to the baseball diamond, it was another fine week for the local nine. The Mustangs continued to hold a strong second place position in the GBL standings, and solidified their position with a pair of wins this past week.
Facing GBL rival Somerville on April 26, the Mustangs rolled to a one-sided 20-0 victory behind the herculean efforts of Danny Gilchrist at Playstead Park.
Gilchrist swatted three home runs and collected a staggering nine RBIs as Medford made quick work of the neighboring Highlanders.
Chris Salvati took the ball on the afternoon, and was dominant, allowing just one hit over four innings in the mercy-rule shortened contest.
The Mustangs next faced Cambridge Rindge & Latin in a tough league test, and passed with flying colors.
Gilchrist (5-0) fired six innings of one-run ball to lead Medford to victory, continuing his string of fine performances on the week. He also fanned eight and aided his own cause with a home run.
Tennis Splits
The Mustangs boys tennis team split its two contests this past week, defeating Somerville in a convincing 5-0 whitewashing on April 26, and succumbing to Cambridge the following day by an identical score.
The girls posted an identical 1-1 mark on the week, defeating Somerville as well before falling to Boston Latin 4-1 on April 28.
