The Medford High student athletes have enjoyed a largely successful 2011 campaign across the board. Here's a look at how the locals fared.

With the rain making a return last week, Medford largely escaped the postponements that plagued some other area schools.
It was business as usual for the Mustangs on the fields of play, as every team saw action, and mostly enjoyed positive results.
With most of the Medford teams in the hunt for, or already in possession of, league titles, the next few weeks should be very interesting around the athletic fields of Medford.

Girls Lax Stays Hot
The Medford girls lacrosse team continued its march towards the MIAA Tournament with three games last week, and posted a mark of 2-1 during that span.

Facing Essex Aggie in a non-league match on May 2, Medford pulled out a nail-biting 9-8 win on the road, and headed into a Greater Boston League tilt wit Cambridge Rindge & Latin the following day with a full head of steam.
The lopsided 17-2 scoreline is proof enough of the after effects of the emotional victory the day before.
The Mustangs (11-2) picked up just their second loss of the season on May 6, as they were nipped 11-6 by Waltham in a tough non-conference test.
The boys split a pair of games last week, beating CRLS 6-4 on May 3, and falling to non-league adversary Woburn by a 10-5 scoreline on May 5.
Gilchrist Leads They Way on the Diamond
Medford baseball played twice last week, and despite an 8-1 setback against table-topping Everett on May 3, the Mustangs (8-2, 3-2 GBL) bounced back to record a 4-0 win over Malden in a border war flare up on May 5.
Danny Gilchrist pitched 7 innings, striking out 9 and surrendering just two hits during the win, while Pat Duffy (3-for-3, 2 RBIs), Chris Hayes (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), Chris Salvati (2-for-3) and Nick Murphy (2-for-3) led the offense.
The Mustangs solidified their hold on the second place in the GBL, and should the cards fall the right way, could be in for a decisive battle with the Crimson Tide on May 19.
Moving to the softball diamond, the Mustangs played three games last week and emerged with one win when the dust had settled.
Everett took a 12-5 decision on May 3, and Malden scored a 10-0 whitewashing over the Mustangs (7-3, 2-3 GBL) on May 5.
The lone bright spot of the week came on May 6 with an 11-5 non-league win over Middlesex League opponent Lexington.
