
The Annual Meeting of the Mystic River Watershed Association will be held on Thursday, October 24, at Winchester Town Hall in the Maurer Auditorium, Winchester, MA. Please join us for an evening celebrating the Mystic River Watershed Association’s advocacy efforts on behalf of the Mystic River. The event will begin with light refreshments and mingling at 6:00 p.m., and the night’s program will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. Special awards will be given and we’ll hear an update from Association staff as well as an address from keynote speaker Julie Wormser, Executive Director of The Boston Harbor Association. Keynote Speaker Julie Wormser will provide information on climate change projections in the Boston Harbor and Mystic River area. Ms. Wormser’s remarks will also cover what actions can be taken to prepare for these impacts and what is being done to address climate change in coastal cities worldwide.
Julie Wormser is the Executive Director of The Boston Harbor Association, a non-profit organization focused on economic development, public access and sea level rise adaptation along Boston’s waterfront. Prior to joining TBHA, she spent fifteen years as a senior regional strategist with Environmental Defense Fund, Appalachian Mountain and The Wilderness Society. She helped secure millions of dollars in federal funding for forestlands and marine fisheries in New England. She was the lead author of Preparing for the Rising Tide, a well-received primer on climate change adaptation released by TBHA in February 2013. She received her BA in biology from Swarthmore College and her MPA from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

The Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) was founded in 1972 and has largely functioned through the efforts of professional staff and community volunteers working together on a project-by-project basis. Its mission is to protect and restore the Mystic River, its tributaries and watershed lands for the benefit of present and future generations and to celebrate the value, importance and great beauty of these natural resources which play a vital role in the many cities and towns the watershed includes.
