Read Dr. Edouard-Vincent's introductory letter, which outlines her vision for shaping the future of the school system.

MEDFORD, MA – Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent began her tenure as Medford superintendent of schools July 1. Read her introduction letter below.

I am so thrilled to begin this important journey as the leader of the Medford Public Schools.

As a Medford native, the opportunity to return and serve this great city has been a dream fulfilled. I bring a diverse range of experiences over the past 24 years in education, which include work as a substitute teacher, teacher, assistant principal, principal, Network and Instructional Superintendent, and, perhaps most importantly, a parent. My educational and professional background has prepared me to lead at this level and I am so excited to start on this important journey together.

I plan to build on the great work that has been done, prior to my joining the Medford Team. I have been so impressed by the quality of discussions of the people I have met thus far. It is clear that we have a lot to be proud of in Medford. I am also acutely aware that there is much we need to improve to deliver on a promise of an excellent and equitable education for ALL students. I look forward to listening and learning so that we can come to a consensus on the priorities upon which we need to focus to deliver to all of our students a world-class education.

My guiding principles (ACE) that keep me grounded in the work are:

  • Academic Achievement for ALL: We need a deep commitment to high standards, rigorous Instruction and cognitively demanding work for ALL students.
  • Collaboration for ALL: As adults in our community, we have a responsibility to work together to best support our students and families. When we do, we will produce better results for our students. The Medford Public Schools must work together and in collaboration with our families and our community to deliver to all of our students what they deserve: a world class education.
  • Equity for ALL: Leveling the playing field by providing to all students what they need in order to be successful.

We can only be an excellent school system if we are excellent for each and every student we serve. I am honored to work in collaboration with an entire community to deliver on this promise.

Over the next few months, I look forward to listening and learning from the Medford community which includes but not limited to: students, families, staff, school leaders, administrators, community partners, department leaders from other departments and other stakeholders that are invested in keeping Medford Public Schools a high academic performing district. I have a lot to learn and this rich feedback that is gathered from our interactions will help to shape our collective vision of Medford for the future.

I am living proof that Medford breeds success no matter how humble your beginnings. It is my responsibility to ensure that a quality, rigorous education is available to all students in every school and in every classroom. This work cannot be done alone, but collaboratively with the help of all staff and families co-partnering to support increased student outcomes.

I look forward to working together, growing together, celebrating together and moving Medford up, together. I’m eager to get started, meet so many of you, hear about your hopes and dreams, and how we can collaboratively partner to deliver an excellent and equitable education for ALL students.

Have a wonderful, relaxing summer and remember to cherish the time that you spend with your children and families.

In Partnership for Children,
Dr. Marice Edouard-Vincent, Superintendent of Schools
