MEDFORD, MA — The MBTA is investigating the derailment of a new Orange Line train in Medford Monday. The train was out of service when it came off the tracks in the Wellington rail yard, according to the agency. It was taken out of service at noon, as was scheduled, an MBTA spokesperson told news outlets.

The last car of the six-car train came off the rails while moving over a track switch at a slow rate of speed. The switch is scheduled to be replaced as part of the $102 million project to upgrade the rail yard.

An inspection found no significant damage to the train. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
