No Sale For Longtime Medford Restaurant

The space was to be one of three businesses demolished to build a mixed-use development on Main Street.

MEDFORD, MA – A longtime Italian restaurant in Medford has been spared from the wrecking ball. A deal to sell the Bocelli's space on Main Street is off the table because owner Nick Catricala "just wasn't ready yet," he told the Medford Transcript.

Bocelli's was one of three buildings at 368-374 Main St. that developer Rich Welch of the Mesiti Group was looking to tear down to build a mixed-use development. The application he submitted to the historical commission called for replacing Bocelli's, Jason Anthony's Formal Wear and Backstreet Salon with 12 apartments and new retailers on the ground floor.

But Catricala was gun-shy about the deal for awhile, particularly after the historical commission voted to "preferably preserve" the site and delay its demolition for 18 months, according to the Transcript. Welch told the publication Catricala officially backed out of the deal earlier this month.
