Obituary: B. Michael Manzo Jr., Owned Mission Trophy in Arlington Center

B. Michael “Mike” Manzo Jr., a retired teacher with Medford Public Schools, died peacefully at his home on Cape Cod on Wednesday, Dec. 10. He was 94.

Mr. Manzo was born and raised in Medford, the son of the late Baldo and Teresa (Lentino) Manzo. Mike was a student-athlete at Medford High and was recruited for Notre Dame University’s football team upon graduation. Mike played at Notre Dame and graduated in 1945.

Upon returning from Indiana, Mike embarked on a long career teaching math and history at the Hobbs Junior High School in Medford. He also was the proprietor of Mission Trophy in Arlington until retiring and turning the business over to Joseph Barletta.

Mike and his late wife Marie lived in Arlington for many years. Mike retired to Centerville on Cape Cod. He was a devoted family man and a loyal alumnus of Notre Dame and a lifelong member of the Monogram Club.

The beloved husband of the late Marie (Guarente) Manzo who passed away in 1992, he was a devoted father to Diane Centofanti and her husband Luigi of Charlestown, Michael Manzo and his wife Noreen of W. Barnstable and the late Rosemarie Panariti. He was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren. He is also predeceased by his dear companion Bertha Benson and brother Joseph Manzo.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon with a funeral service celebrated in the funeral home at noon, concluding with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.
