Organizations Join Forces For Youth And Police Basketball

The inaugural annual game aims to cultivate friendly vibes between the police and community.

Acknowledging the thorough beating the reputation of police officers has taken in the minds of many during recent months, the Somerville Police Department will co-host a youth basketball game at the East Somerville Community School on Friday, Feb. 6. at 7 p.m. Other participating organizations include The City of Somerville, Somerville Teen Empowerment, and the Somerville Recreation Department.

“The Youth and Police have been working very hard in a time of such turmoil amidst all the issues going on around police relationships, and we need you to come support our work together,” states the Youth and Police Basketball Game Facebook event page. According to the source, free pizza will be made available following the match.

The two teams will consist both police and Teen Empowerment members, and a halftime three-point shooting contest, with prizes awarded to the victors, is also been planned.
