SWAT Called To Medford Church After Nearby Robberies

MEDFORD, MA — Police are investigating a possible connection between an attempted robbery in Cambridge and an attempted armed robbery on the Medford-Somerville line overnight. Police in Medford were called to PLS Check Cashing Wednesday night following an attempted armed robbery.

Several hours later, police chased a suspect in an attempted robbery at a Cambridge 7-Eleven into Medford. A struggle ensued in Somerville before the suspect fled to the area of St. Clement Parish. Investigators found the church door open with wet footprints leading inside, police said.

Given the potential connection between the two attempted robberies, police believed an armed suspect could be inside the church. SWAT searched the building but did not find anyone inside.

Police are investigating a possible connection between the two incidents.
