Ax-Wielding Man Requests 'My Axe' At Kiss 108, Ends Up In SWAT Standoff
The man reportedly requested the song 'My Axe' before before being a tense standoff in the radio station lot.

MEDFORD, MA — An alleged ax-throwing man who was at the center of a two-hour long standoff with police outside of the Kiss 108 studios Monday afternoon had been denied his song request at the radio station. The song was reportedly the Insane Clown Posse's My Axe.
Richard Newton, 38, was taken into custody by police, but not after SWAT responded to a quickly developing situation in the Cabot Street lot near Wellington Station. The lot is home to Kiss 108 studios, among others. Subscribe to Medford Patch and like us on Facebook for more local news and alerts.
A witness told The Boston Globe Newton allegedly pulled up to her, asked her "play the axe song," then "pulled out a big [expletive] axe." NBC Boston reported Newton had entered the Kiss 108 building and and asked the secretary if they would play 'My Axe.'

Newton allegedly threw an ax at police, who used non-lethal weapons in response. He got back into his car, but was taken into custody by police around 4 p.m., leaving in an ambulance. Footage from the scene showed police apprehending a man in a white sleeveless shirt outside the red sedan that had been surrounded for two hours.
Police said several "edged" weapons were found in Newton's vehicle.
