MEDFORD, MA — Protein powder found in the parking lot of Ocean State Job Lot prompted a hazmat response on Commercial Street Saturday, the fire department said. Hazmat crews responded to 30 Commercial St. around 9:30 a.m. Saturday after an Utz cheese ball container was found with a "large amount" of white powder inside.

Crews were at first unable to determine if it was a hazardous material.

"After a couple hours of testing performed on the scene by the HazMat technicians with Engine 4 standing by, the substance was determined to be protein powder," the Medford Fire Department said in a statement.
