The City of Somerville has sued the Massachusetts Gaming Commission in an attempt to block the Wynn Resorts casino planned for Everett, according to the Boston Globe.

The city, led by Mayor Joseph Curtatone, an outspoken opponent of the casino since the beginning, filed a lawsuit Thursday in Suffolk Superior Court accusing the commission of breaking the law by issuing the license to Wynn despite convicted felon Charles Lightbody having a stake in the land, according to the report.

Revere, which sought the casino license for its Suffolk Downs racetrack, has also sued the commission.

On Nov. 4, Massachusetts residents voted down a repeal of the state’s casino law. The law, passed by state legislators in 2011, allows three casinos and a slots parlor in the state.
