Transgender Chorus to Perform Medford Concert for Orlando Victims

The Butterfly Music Transgender Chorus will premiere a new original piece dedicated to the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in June.

MEDFORD, MA – The Butterfly Music Transgender Chorus will perform an original composition in Medford next month dedicated to the victims of the Orlando nightclub attack.

The June 12 mass shooting has been described as one of the worst in modern American history, as well as one of the largest attacks on the LGBT community, according to Butterfly Music.

In response, the chorus will perform an original piece, "The Pulse Suite," written using reactions submitted by chorus members and backed by chorus accompanist Derek Zinky. The concert is co-sponsored by Sanctuary United Church of Christ of Medford, as part of its “Music for the Soul” series.

"Our chorus members were hit hard by the horrible massacre that took place in Orlando in June and wanted to do something," Sandi Hammond, founder of The Butterfly Music Transgender Chorus, said in a statement.

Hammond founded the chorus in 2014 to "provide transgender people with a supportive community and safe space in which to celebrate their unique talents, while also learning to adapt their changing voices during and post transition."
