Tufts Raises PILOT Payment To Medford By 64 Percent

This year's payment from Tufts puts Medford on par with Somerville and Boston.

MEDFORD, MA — The city has received a $450,000 Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) from Tufts University for Fiscal Year 2019, city officials announced Wednesday. The payment is a 64 percent increase from the previous PILOT payment received by Medford, putting it on par with Boston and Somerville.

The previous partnership agreement with Tufts expired in June of 2018. City officials will continue to negotiate the benefits portion of a new agreement.

During negotiations, the obligations of the previous agreement will be upheld, Mayor Stephanie M. Burke's office said.
