Pitcher Dan Gilchrist struck out 11 as the Medford High baseball team beat Stoneham, 3-1.
Medford pitcher Dan Gilchrist struck out 11 and gave up just three hits as the Mustangs beat host Stoneham, 3-1, on Friday.
"He's been our knight in shining armor," said Medford head coach Mike Nestor. "He's taken the bull by the horns every time he gets the ball."
Chris Hayes drove in two runs including the go ahead sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

"I'm a little unhappy with the baserunning," said Nestor, whose team squandered some scoring opportunities with baserunning gaffes. "The kids are better than what they did today, but in that sense they hung on to go after to the game and dig down deep inside and come out with the win."
Medford improved to 4-0 with the win and will travel to take on Greater Boston League rival Malden on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
