2-Alarm Fire at Melrose-Wakefield Hopsital
The fire broke out shortly after 1 p.m. Friday.

Statement from Melrose Mayor Robert Dolan:
The Melrose Fire Department responded quickly [Friday] to a fire located in a duct on the roof of Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. The fire was contained and put out, and the hospital was not evacuated. Patients were not at risk, and service was not stopped. If you have seen a number of public safety vehicles around the hospital [Friday], this is the reason why.

The fire is in a ventilation shaft and has extended to the roof of the six-story building, according to Eric J. Christopher, @MGMFD on Twitter.

Firefighters have responded to a two-alarm fire at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, according to multiple reports.
Some reports have the fire in an elevator shaft at the hospital.
Melrose-Wakefield Hospital is at 585 Lebanon St. in Melrose.
