LISTEN: 911 Call Released from 'Swatting' Incident at Congresswoman's Home

Police swarmed to Congresswoman Katherine Clark's home Sunday after a false report of an active shooter situation.

MELROSE—Melrose Police have released the audio from the 911 call that sent police to the home of Congresswoman Katherine Clark on Sunday.

The automated call appeared to identify itself as ”Life Alert Automated Systems” and said that there had been shots fired and multiple people wounded at the Melrose location (which was muted). The call referred to the false situation as an “active shooter situation.”

Melrose Police said Monday that officers quickly determined that there was no danger or threat at the residence. Congresswoman Clark took to social media to alert the public that everyone was safe.

“Last night, after I sent my youngest two sons to bed, someone sent an anonymous call to the Melrose Police Department reporting an active shooter at my home, with the intent of sending a SWAT team to my house,” Congresswoman Clark wrote.”Thankfully, I was aware that this might happen, and had made the Melrose Police Department aware of it too. I’m grateful for the professional response of the Melrose Police Department, and that no one was hurt. I hope that this incident didn’t prevent someone with a real emergency from receiving help.”

The situation is under investigation by the Melrose Police, and Melrose Police Chief Michael Lyle said that the department would be conducting a thorough investigation.

“It appears that someone was trying to elicit a police response by making a false report,” Chief Lyle said in a statement Monday. “We take incidents like this very seriously, and will conduct a thorough investigation.”
