SAUGUS, MA — A manager at a Route One gas station is being recognized for his decisive action during a fiery crash on Wednesday, according to a report from WCVB NewsCenter 5.
An SUV collided with two gas pumps at the Speedway on 1252 Broadway in the afternoon, causing one of the pumps to catch fire. Joshua Grady was reportedly inside the store with a customer when he saw and heard the incident, prompting him to immediately activate the emergency shut off valve for the gas pumps. Saugus fire officials said that the flames were not large enough to turn on the business’s fire suppression system, but Grady’s action made the extinguishing effort fast and easy.
Surveillance video from the gas station showed the driver jumping out of the passenger side of the vehicle and running from the scene.
