Melrose Adult Trivia Bee to Support the Bridge

It’s time to come and cheer for the participants in the 11th annual Adult Trivia Bee, sponsored by The Bridge: A School/Community Partnership, to be held on Saturday, March 31, at 7:00 PM, at Memorial Hall, Melrose.

While many businesses and community organizations help support the bee by their participation, the major sponsor of this year’s event is East Boston Savings Bank.

This is the time when folks get to show off their useful and useless knowledge as teams of three compete to be named Trivia Champs of Melrose. Teams may represent any constituency: a neighborhood, family, business, club, non-profit organization, or city government office or committee.

During the contest, up to seven teams of three members each will answer several questions simultaneously, using white boards to record their answer. Then the Trivia Wizard, Phil Kukura, a retired history professor and realtor with Brad Hutchinson Real Estate, will ask each team captain to read the answer aloud.

The team members may discuss the answer during the allotted time, putting their markers down when the Time Keeper rings the bell. The results will be recorded and displayed electronically.

Each team has paid a $225 entry fee, and all the money raised will benefit The Bridge in its many activities to assist the teachers, students, and administrators of the Melrose Public Schools. In past years, under the leadership of Emily Rubenstein, volunteers from the community have tutored high school students, helped in computer labs, worked to assemble and “publish” student books, and assisted in myriad tasks that might otherwise have taken valuable staff or teacher time.

There is no charge to attend the event. There will be a significant line up of raffle prizes, to be drawn between the rounds. In addition, refreshments will be available at nominal costs and there will be a cash bar for beer and wine.
