The first experience was how our neighborhood pulled together as one to prevent what we all felt as an intrusion . I admit I was not able to make every late night meeting at city hall , but together we rallied and were able to succeed in our mission. It may not have appeared to be a big deal on the surface , but to us we felt it was important to voice our concerns. And ultimately , the committee(s) listened to our collective voice and made the right decision. LANA is proof of how people, neighbors can pull together and make a change(or prevent unwanted change)
Second experience is more sullen. A local patriarch of this town passed. To most long time residents we all knew him, or his family, or his legacy. While this was a very difficult time for his family, the day he was laid to rest will forever remain in my memory. The mayor of this town, who I have never personally met spoke at the church . His words of praise and rememberance of this iconic soul absolutely took my breath away. To have that kind of involvement this day and age is very rare. I applaud him and had wished to Personally thank him but missed him at the cemetery. More leaders should take a page from his book.
These 2 experiences are the reason why this is a great town to live in. Not the Starbucks, not the new track at Pine Banks, not even the dog park( but these are all a bonus). It's the people , new and the ones who've been here for decades, that make this a great place to reside. I grew up here and now raise family here.
