STONEHAM, MA—The Stonheam Zoning Board of Appeals(ZBA) has approved the construction of 124 rental dwelling units on the Weiss Farm property Wednesday.

According to the decision report, the ZBA has approved the construction of 124 rental dwelling units, such that the left turn lane on Franklin St. would not be required, among other conditions. The original proposal from Weiss Farm LLC filed for the approval of a 264-unit development.

The ZBA's report cited advisement from the Board's traffic engineer, who stated that a left turn lane on Franklin street would only be required if there were more than 125 units in the development. The report further stated that the left turn lane would not be required if not for the proposed density of the project.

The proposed left turn lane on Franklin St. would eliminate safe bicycle traffic, and a left turn lane would not be required with a housing development containing less than 125 units.

The proposed project is also contingent on additional and expanded analysis of the property's stormwater management systems and wetland impacts.
