Letter: Ward 7 Alderman Candidate Frank Murphy Asks For Your Vote
Murphy is challenging incumbent William Forbes in the biennial city election on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

To the Voters of Ward Seven:
My name is Frank Murphy and I am a candidate for Ward Seven Alderman. I have been a resident and homeowner in this Ward since December of 1995. I am writing to you asking for your consideration and vote on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8.
I would like to take this time tell you about myself and why I have chosen to run for this seat. My wife Colleen and I are the proud parents of our 10 year-old son Colin who is in the 5th grade at the Hoover Elementary School. We feel extremely fortunate to have him in such a caring and positive environment. Melrose is a wonderful community to live and work in and it is my intention, with your help, to become a part of the political process.

My goal is to help establish a Board of Alderman that will continue to include its citizens in determining the future of this city. Melrose has seen many positive changes and developments since my wife and I first moved here sixteen years ago. I firmly believe that its past elected officials deserve our acknowledgment and appreciation for their dedication and hard work.
However, I also believe that it is equally important to have new ideas and opinions concerning the present management and future developments within our fine city. As a taxpayer, I expect that the current essential services provided by our public safety, education, public works, and all other city employees, continue to remain at the high standard that we are accustomed to. As a prospective member of the Board of Alderman, I pledge that I will do everything within my authority to make sure that those levels of services are maintained.

Furthermore, I have been employed within the Massachusetts Criminal Justice System since October of 1988. Since November of 2009, I have been assigned as one of the Probationer Officer’s In-Charge of the Essex County Community Corrections Center located in Lawrence, MA. It is in this position that I act as a liaison between the Community Corrections Center and the Trial Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I am responsible for primarily supervising those individuals who have been placed on probation and ensuring that they remain in compliance with terms and conditions of the Community Corrections Center. I also assist the staff in the day to day operations of the center and follow up on the progress of probationer’s with respect to job development, substance abuse counseling and GED preparation. These are just a few examples of the programs that are offered to those who are court ordered to attend the Community Corrections Center that I oversee on a daily basis.
I believe that with my education and work experience, I am well prepared to assume the responsibilities and duties expected of an elected official for the City of Melrose. As you are well aware, within the past few years, there has been quite a bit of attention attributed to various public officials across this state for decisions or actions that they have made. Some of those decisions have been in the best interest of their constituents, and others have not. It has always been my belief, however, that any elected official serve at the behest of its citizens, and that he or she is to maintain the public trust at all times.
In closing, I would like to thank you for taking the time to review this announcement and I again ask you four your consideration and vote on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8. But most importantly, no matter which candidate you support, please take the time to get out and vote.
Thank you,
Frank Murphy
