MBTA Pedestrian Collision: Victim Likely Melrose High Student
An official identification has not yet been made by the Medical Examiner.

MELROSE, MA—The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority Transit Police responded to a pedestrian collision at 5:25 p.m. on Monday evening in Melrose, which may have involved a Melrose High School student.
In an email to the MHS community (posted via the Melrose Free Press), Principal Marianne Farrell wrote that while a positive identification has not been made by the state Medical Examiner, the victim may likely be a member of the MHS community.
“All indications are that a Melrose High School student is the victim of this tragedy,” Farrell wrote. “Once the individual has been positively identified by the state Medical Examiner, this information will be provided to our school community. We ask that you continue to respect the sensitive and confidential nature of this process as it unfolds.”

A positive and confirmed identification of the victim has not been made.
The school has adjusted its mid-year exams schedule in light of the tragic event. No classes or exams will be held on Wednesday, and mid-year exams have been postponed until Thursday. The school will be open from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Grief counselors will be made available for all students and staff at MHS. The district’s seven school psychologists and eight guidance counselors will be available to speak to individuals or small groups.
Here is the revised mid-year exam schedule according to Principal Farrell’s release:
Mid-year-exam schedule: Thursday, Jan. 21, 8 to 9:45 a.m., A; 10 to 11:45 a.m., G; 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., lunch.
Friday, Jan. 22, 8 to 9:45 a.m., B; 10 to 11:45 a.m., F; 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., lunch.
Monday, Jan. 25, 8 to 9:45 a.m., C; 10 to 11:45 a.m., E; 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., lunch.
Tuesday, Jan. 26, 8 to 9:45 a.m., D; 10 to 11:45 a.m., make up.
Transit Police announced Monday that a man was struck by a northbound Haverhill Line train near the vicinity of 94 Vinton Road. Melrose Fire and EMS along with multiple TPD units responded to the scene.
The victim was pronounced dead at the seen resulting from injuries sustained in the incident. TPD Detectives are currently investigating the incident. Police say that foul play is not suspected.
