Melrose Car Break Suspect Arrested for Second Time in One Week

18-year-old Melrose resident Daniel S. Walsh allegedly broke into several cars in the area Echo Street and Glendower Road.

The Melrose Police Department arrested a man for the second time within a one week span for allegedly breaking into motor vehicles in the city, Chief Michael L. Lyle says.

After being released one bail earlier in the week, 18-year-old Melrose resident Daniel S. Walsh, was arrested again and charged with two felony counts of breaking and entering into a vehicle at nighttime and two counts of receiving stolen property over $250.

On the evening of August 2, police responded to the area after receiving multiple car break-in reports during the overnight hours on Echo Street and Glendower Road.

An officer later found Walsh wearing a backpack matching the description of one that was reported stolen. Several others items, also reported stolen, were inside the backpack, police say.

“We allege that this suspect is responsible for a string of random automotive break-ins, and this individual will now spend an extended period of time in jail,” Chief Lyle said.

Walsh’s bail from a previous case was revoked, police say. The teenager is now being held without bail at the Middlesex House of Corrections. He’ll remain there for 90 days.

Walsh was previously arrested on July 29. He was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and breaking and entering into a vehicle at nighttime.
