Melrose Family Child Care Center adds STEAM program into curriculum and expands program offerings

Located at 106 Main Street in Melrose, The Melrose Family YMCA Child Care Center revealed a new Science Lab. The new lab features a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) curriculum, which allows children to explore the nature of science. The room incorporates new and exciting science tools where children can explore their creativity meanwhile gaining knowledge.

Through a very generous donation, the center has been fortunate enough to implement many science materials into this STEAM curriculum including: microscopes, magnets, sink and float kits, engineering kits and much more.

The Melrose Family YMCA Child Care Center has also expanded and diversified their enrichment classes for children ages 2.9 to 5 years old. In their Preschool Bookworms class, children become immersed in a new story each week and participate in accompanying activities that that revolve around the chosen story using art, science, and cooking techniques.

Burn some energy by playing parachute games, charge through obstacle courses and learn new gym games at the Y’s Energy Zone class. Children also work on mastering their dance skills in their introductory, Creative Movement class through hip-hop and cultural dance styles. This class allows children to strengthen their listening skills, coordination, and refine their left and right discrimination skills.

If your child is looking to unwind with something a bit more relaxing, try out the Y’s Preschool Yoga class. With imagination and kid friendly yoga poses, the Y simplifies a complex, ancient practice into something that is modern, inclusive, calming and fun.

Beginner Ballet at the Y is designed for children to explore proper alignment and technique with the use of traditional and contemporary music; ballet is much more than just tutus and toe shoes.

The Melrose Family YMCA Child Care Center is now enrolling and has been enthusiastically broadening their program offerings. Every child gets a youth membership at the YMCA of Metro North!
