Melrose Man Charged with Shoplifting, Assault and Battery in Somerville

A 36-year-old Melrose man allegedly shoplifted eight door hasps and two boxes of heavy-duty staples from the Somerville Home Depot on Mystic Avenue Thursday, Aug. 21, and pushed a loss-prevention employee to get away.

Michael Foley, of 165 Washington St., Melrose, was arrested at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday after a Somerville Police officer stopped his vehicle, which matched the vehicle description given by an employee, on the Fellsway, according to police.

The officer allegedly found the stolen items in his vehicle. Home Depot also caught Foley on surveillance footage, police said.

Foley was charged with shoplifting by asportation and assault and battery, according to police.
