MELROSE, MA—Melrose police have arrested two men on heroin and cocaine possession charges in Melrose.
Police announced Friday that Anthony Vivolo, 45, of Melrose was charged with possession of cocaine and Gerald Ahern, 47, of Wilmington was charged with possession of heroin. Police responded to a residence on Hurd Street after receiving complaints of drug activity.
“I would certainly like to commend the work of Melrose police and the representatives from the drug task force who assisted us during this investigation,” Melrose Police Chief Lyle said in a statement. “It is our hope that these folks who are struggling with drug addiction will seek out the help they need to recover.”
Police set up surveillance at the residence at 2 p.m.:
“While monitoring the area, police noticed a red Toyota Tacoma pickup truck arrive at Vivolo’s home and watched him get into the vehicle.
Officers then observed the pickup truck pull into the Richdale Convenience Store, 54 West Wyoming Ave. They approached the vehicle and noticed a baggie filled with a white powdery substance that appeared to be cocaine inside. Police then asked Vivolo to step out of the vehicle and found another bag of the same substance in his pants pocket,” according to a police statement.
The man driving the pickup was Ahern, and police located three bags of what appeared to be heroin in his possession upon asking him to exit the vehicle.
Melrose Police collaborated with members of the regional drug task force to make the arrests.
