Milford Emergency Responders Honored With Citation
The dispatcher, fire fighters and police officers who responded to last Wednesday's fire on North Bow Street.

MILFORD, MA- The police officers, fire fighters and emergency dispatcher who helped rescue nine people from an apartment building fire last Wednesday were recognized with a citation from the Board of Selectmen at Monday night's meeting.
Chairman Michael Walsh read letters from both the chief of police and fire chief aloud, highlighting the bravery show by officers, firefighters and the dispatcher who spotted ht fire on his way home from work and jumped in to help.
Walsh read the definitions of the words hero, sacrifice and selflessness as they were used in the two letters to describe the emergency responders. "I could not be more proud of all of you for what you do on a daily basis in this community," Walsh said.

Selectman Buckley added that the response to the fire on North Bow Street was unique, with dispatcher Jason Covino stepping in to help evacuate residents before fire and police officials arrived. He added that all the officials involved should be recognized more often for their work.
Senator Ryan Fattman and Representative Brian Murray attended the meeting to offer citations to the first responders as well. Representative Murray highlighted the camaraderie between the police and fire departments in the town, "In this particular event we saw it the most," Murray said.

The fire started in a multi-unit home at 16 North Bow Street last Wednesday night. Off-duty dispatcher Jay Covino spotted the fire and called it into the police and proceeded to help evacuate residents. One woman had to be rescued from her second floor apartment where the fire broke out. Nine residents were evacuated and the woman who was rescued was hospitalized.
