MILFORD, MA — Emergency crews responded to a gas leak near a school in Milford on Monday morning.

Woodland Elementary School at 10 North Vine St. in Milford was evacuated on Monday morning after a nearby gas leak. The leak was caused when a gas line connected to the building's emergency generator was accidentally ruptured during snow removal operations, according to police.

The school was evacuated around 10:40 a.m., and students were kept warm in staged buses while the fire department conducted reading checks of the building. Eversource Energy was contacted and also responded to assess the situation.
