Outstanding Teacher

The Milford Public Schools has announced that Maryann Hanley-Pereira, a science teacher at Milford High School, has been named Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Sen. Louis P. Bertonazzi Foundation.

The following information was provided by Milford Public Schools in a press release.

Each year, the Sen. Louis P. Bertonazzi Foundation sponsors an Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award to recognize the many talented educators serving Milford’s public school students.

Nominations for this award come from parents, students and members of the Milford community. Each school's council reviews all nomination forms received and chooses one teacher for recommendation to the Bertonazzi Foundation. The Selection Committee from the Bertonazzi Foundation then chooses the award winner from the teachers nominated.

The criteria for selection includes includes innovative and effective teaching methods, concern for students over and above those of normal every day teaching, contributions to the reputation of the Milford Public schools and involvement in activities relating to and contributing to the improvement of the education of the youth of Milford.

The recipient of the 2010-11 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award is Maryann Hanley-Pereira, a science teacher at . Ms. Hanley-Pereira was awarded a $1,000 cash prize. The other nominees, who were honored with a plaque, were: Eileen Allison, , Alex Ohannesian, , Renee Bombredi-Juli, ; Deb Sroczynski, ; Lisa Peciaro, ; and Donna Kling, .
